The Best Desk Guide
Desktop dimensions
The desks we’ve featured in this post are mainly the same size and should give you ample room for a dual monitor set up along with a laptop, keyboard and mouse. Monitor mounts are a great way of freeing up more desktop space if you need to. (Note, not recommended for our featured glass-topped desk.)
Height range
Take a look at recommended desk heights on Inch Calculator. You’ll find guidelines for seated and standing work, but take your own measurements as well to ensure the correct ergonomic positioning. (You’ll also find info on chair height and monitor placement.)
Weight
We’ve given you the maximum weight capacity for each desk. The lowest should accommodate the average desktop set-up, but we strongly advise that you check the weight of your equipment and stay within the recommendations.
If you’re looking for some extra on the weight capacity, opt for a dual motor desk as these can lift a lot more.
The desks themselves are each fairly heavy so we would also recommend having a spare pair of hands available to help to flip the desk once assembled.
Controller type
Simple up and down controllers do the job well enough, but higher tech versions allow you to pre-set 3 or 4 of your favourite heights. This is particularly handy if you’re sharing your desk, but you’ll usually pay a little more for the memory function.
Some of the controllers featured also have charging ports, making it easy and convenient to keep your gadgets on the go. Look out for extras such as anti-collision and safety locking features as well. Again, these tend to bump the price up.
Warranty
A couple of the warranties in our top 5 are for 1 year only. This is disappointing as we would expect a minimum of 2 years for electric desks. But we’ve kept them in because warranty aside, they’re good desks and may fall under your exisiting policies – household cover for example.
Price range
We’ve listed the price range for each desk, but prices fluctuate with seasonal offers, brand promotions and as new products come onto the market. For live pricing, click on the link in each of the specs to go directly to the retailer website. You’ll also find the latest info on stock levels and delivery lead times.

FENGE

Best for budget – this desk has a lot to offer for the lowest price.
Desktop dimensions 110cm x 70cm
Height range 73.5cm – 123.5cm
Weight capacity 80kgs
Price range £200 – £250

Our first pick is by far the best option if you’re limited on budget. The top is made with high quaity particle board and the frame is industrial grade steel. It’s a good, solid desk, with the 80kg weight capacity sitting roughly in the middle of the range.
It has a good height range and the best maximum height within our top 5. The controller features a simple 2 button console. This is super easy to use, but with this model you can’t programme your favourite heights for convenience.
There’s a cable management tray included to help keep your wires in order, plus there’s a hook for your headphones, jacket and the like. The drawer measures 40cm x 23.5cm, so is ideal for pens, pads and other small items. But it’s not the sturdiest of drawers, so keep it light.
This Fenge desk comes in a choice of designs and the top comes in either 2 or 3 pieces, depending on which you choose. We prefer single piece tops, but you’ll barely notice the seam once assembled.
We’ve pictured the brown and black combo. White and maple is also available. This isn’t the sleekest looking desk, and if you’re going purely on looks you’ve probably skipped this section. But aesthetics aside, this desk is good value for a low price.
Warranty cover is only 1 year. (This can be expected for lower end models.)
PROs – best price, best maximum height, good weight capacity.
CONs – up and down function only, top in 2 or 3 pieces, 1 year warranty.
ELEVATE 120

Another great budget option – suitable for shorter users.
Desktop dimensions 120cm x 60cm
Height range 69cm – 117cm
Weight capacity 50kgs
Price range £250 – £300

Pictured is the stylish oak top and white frame combo. (Other choices include a black frame and black or white top.) The top is made with high quality engineered wood with a strong veneer finish. The drawer sits flush and has a 66cm x 30cm x 3.8cm storage area. This one’s a little larger and a lot stronger than the previous.
The weight capacity on this desk is a little disappointing and is one of the lowest. It should still accommodate the average set up – just don’t overdo it with peripherals and heavier pieces.
There’s a memory function on the controller for 4 of your favourite heights. There are also some neat extras as standard – USB charging (2 x A-Type, 1 x C-Type), anti-collision technology and a lockable console to keep your equipment and settings safe.
The maximum height on the Elevate 120 desk is the lowest of the bunch, but should still be suitable for users around 6 feet tall for standing work. This desk also has the lowest setting, making it more suitable for shorter users whilst seated.
This desk is nearing the £300 mark, but as well as the great quality and neat extras, you’re also covered by a 5 year warranty for the top and 3 years for the electrics.
PROs – good price, good warranty, nice extras – charge ports, child lock, anti-collision. Suitable for shorter users.
CONs – Low weight capacity, lowest maximum height.
DELLONDA

Stylish design with memory function and charging ports.
Desktop dimensions 120cm x 160cm
Height range 72cm – 121cm
Weight capacity 50kg
Price range £300 – £350

We love the look of this oak top with black frame. The desktop is made with hard wood and finished with a strong veneer. Also available in white top with white frame or black top with black frame. (For your info, the black option features a glass top which is priced the same as the wooden tops. This is a good deal as you’ll usually pay extra for glass.)
This is a sturdy desk with a good maximum height. As with the previous model, the drawer sits flush with the desk. Measuring 66.5cm x 31.5cm x 4cm, you have a decent amount of storage space to help keep things neat and tidy.
The controller features a 4-height memory function and there are 3 charging ports – 2 x USB and 1 x C Type – so you can keep your gadgets up and running whilst you work.
Although we’re sold on the look, there are a couple of points which really score the Dellonda desk down. Firstly, the weight capacity is one of the lowest in this feature. Again, it should prove ample for the average set-up, but you’ll probably need extra lift for anything more.
Finally, the warranty is low at just 1 year. Dellonda make good desks, but it’s good to have a little more peace of mind, especially when you’re paying over £300.
PROs – stylish look, good height range, charge ports.
CONs – low weight capacity, 1 year warranty.
PURUS LIFE

Best for lift, this desk has the highest weight capacity.
Desktop dimensions 120cm x 60cm
Height range 73cm – 119cm
Weight capacity 120kg
Price range £400 – £450

We’ve chosen the tempered glass-topped desk from Purus Life for our next pick. (Only available in black at the time of publishing, but white should be available soon.) The high gloss contemporary design gives a super-sleek aesthetic to any work space. But beware if you’re considering using a monitor mount – it’s not recommended with the glass top.
The touch screen controller is on the desktop itself and has a 4-height memory function. There’s also a wireless charging pad which means easy and convenient adjustment and charging. It also means you lose an amount of your desktop space.
However, you have the option to disable the wireless charger – there are 3 USB ports at the front edge of the desk if you do – and there’s also a controller lock so you don’t have to worry about accidentally touching or changing the controls whilst you work.
This model features dual motors, making for smooth adjustment and a superior weight capacity. At 120kg, this is the best by far within the our top 5. The maximum height is one of the lowest of the 5, but should still be high enough for users up to around 6 feet 4 inches tall.
Once again, flush to the desktop, you’ll barely notice the drawer which gives an ample 56cm x 29cm storage space. This desk also comes with a handy cable management tray, and the warranty is for 2 years – not the best, but getting better.
PROs – best weight capacity, wireless charging plus 3 charge ports, contemporary aesthetic.
CONs – no other colour options, controller on desktop, upper end of price range.
FLEXISPOT

Great storage, great extras, great brand.
Desktop dimensions 120cm x 60cm
Height range 73cm – 122cm
Weight capacity 45kg
Price range £450 – £500

If you’ve read some of our other comparison reviews, you’ll no doubt be aware that we are big fans of the FlexiSpot brand. They offer a wide range of well-made products, have a strong customer focus and their desks tend to tick all the boxes within the price range.
This particular model is heading towards the top end of the range, so let’s take a look at what you get for your money…
The FlexiSpot EHD2 has a good height range and features a 4-memory pre-set function. This desk also features anti-collision technology and a lockable control to keep your equipment and settings safe and secure. You’ll find 3 charging ports to the side – 2 x Type A and 1 x Type C – so you can keep your gadgets working without the wires getting in your way.
The drawers give you loads of room for storage, both measuring 51cm x 30cm x 7.6cm. Plenty of space to keep your desk well organised and tidy. Plus, if you’re not a big fan of self-assembly furniture, most of the work is done for you with this desk…the rest should take you about 5 minutes!
All good so far, but what about the negatives? The maple top and white frame is a stylish combo, but if that’s not to your taste, you’re out of luck. There are no other colour options at this time. The weight capacity is the lowest within our top 5, so weigh up your kit carefully and don’t overload the extra storage space.
Also, there’s a long wait for these desks….they’re back ordered to the hilt, so be prepared to wait for a few weeks or even months if you choose this model.
Finally, the frame is covered by a 5 year warranty and 2 years for the controller and other mechanisms.
PROs – great brand, excellent storage space, great extras – anti-collision, lock, charge ports.
CONs – highest price, back ordered, no other colour options.

Standing Desks With Drawers – Final Thoughts
Whatever your main buying criteria – whether it’s price, height range, weight capacity or just plain old good looks – we’re sure there’s a standing desk with drawers within our top 5 to suit your needs.
They’re all great desks with something a little different to offer. We’ve summarised the key points below for quick reference :
- Fenge – our first pick has the lowest price, the best maximum height and a good weight capacity. But the top on this particular model is in 2 pieces and there’s only a 1 year warranty. Adjustment is super-simple with the 2 button controller – but this won’t be the desk for you if you’re looking for a memory function.
- Elevate 120 – another great budget option with a good warranty plus charging ports, a child lock and anti-collision technology. Also good for shorter users, but this desk has the lowest maximum height and the lowest weight capacity.
- Dellonda – a really stylish design with a good height range, also featuring charging ports. But the weight capacity is low and the 1 year warranty is more than a little disappointing. Such a shame to score this great desk down.
- Purus Life – this glass-topped option has wireless charging plus 3 ports and its dual motor makes for a higher weight capacity – the best within our top 5. This model is towards the upper end of the price range though and the touch screen control is on the desktop itself. It can be locked to avoid accidental touch, but this might prove to be a nuisance.
- FlexiSpot – the EHD2 model has the best storage space, it looks great and comes with a lockable controller, anti-collision technology and charging ports. But it will set you back around £500 and is currently back ordered. Is it worth the wait?
