Top Tips for Choosing the Right Desk
The Right Height
One of the most important things to consider is the height of your desk – especially if you’re taller than average. All of the desks within our feature have a good height range and should be suitable for users upto around 6 feet 4 inches tall.
We use inch calculator for recommended heights for standing and seated work. As well as a desk height calculator, you’ll find some simple guidelines for the correct ergonomic office set-up.
Please remember that recommended heights should be used as a guideline only. Take your own measurements to make sure your desk will fit you personally.
If you’re under around 5 feet 8 tall, you might find that the desks featured are a little too tall for you for seated work. A good, adjustable height chair can be an easy fix. Just be sure to choose one with a foot rest so you can remain safe and comfortable whilst sitting.
About Pricing
We’ve given you the price range for each of the desks featured within this post. (All prices and details are correct at the time of publishing.) But with seasonal sales and new products coming onto the market, prices often fluctuate.

Other Options
If you don’t find what you’re looking for in this post, we’ll be publishing more “Best Of” guides as we build this site further. In the meantime, bear the above points in mind when shopping around elsewhere. Also be sure to consider desktop dimensions, height range, weight capacity and warranty cover.
You’ll find all of these are covered within the individual specs below.

SDADI

There’s not much not to like about this model. Overall it’s a great desk for a great price.
Desktop 116cm x 61cm
Height range 74cm – 120cm
Weight capacity 102kg
Price range Under £200

Our first recommendation features a solid steel frame and particle board top with scratch-resistant laminate. The edges and corners are rounded and there’s a grommet hole to the rear to help keep your cables neat and tidy. Or you could use it to maximise the SDADI’s superior weight capacity with a monitor mount for multiple screen set-ups.
The controller features an LCD display and there are 3 programmable memory pre-sets for your favourite heights. This model also comes with some neat extras such as collision avoidance, overheat protection and autobalance systems.
The SDADI desk comes with 5 year warranty cover for the frame, motor and other mechanisms and 2 year cover for the controller and switch.
This is one of the smaller desks featured and there are no other colour options. But apart from that there’s not much not to like. Overall, this is a great desk for a great price.
What we like…superior weight capacity, comes with some nice extras, best price.
What’s not so hot…no other colour choices, one of the smaller desktops.
ERGOMAKER

This is a great all-rounder with added extras and a good choice of colour combos.
Desktop 110cm x 60cm
Height range 72cm x 122cm
Weight capacity 80kg
Price range £200 – £250

Our next pick has an aluminium frame – light but sturdy – and an unusual octagonal leg design. It also has a heavy duty crossbar for added stability. The top is made with MFC (or melamine faced chipboard), which is smooth, durable and a little stronger than MDF. It comes as “foldable” in 2 pieces, and although it fits closely together when fully assembled you may notice the seam slightly.
The controller features an LED touch screen display with 3 memory height pre-sets. There’s also a childproof lock so you can keep your desk and settings safe from the kids or your colleagues. For convenience, there’s a type A USB charge port located to the side of the controller. This model also features an anti collision function.
If the all black combo doesn’t work for you, Ergomaker offers a choice of cherry or white tops and a white frame option as well.
The warranty has you covered for 3 years and the Ergomaker desk is at the lower end of the price range. Another great value desk if you don’t mind the slight seam, but again, it’s one of the smaller desks within our Top 5.
What we like…lockable controller, anti collision technology, choice of colours, a great all-rounder.
What’s not so hot…2 piece desktop, one of the smaller desks featured in our Top 5.
DELLONDA

Another great value desk with a generous sized top and a good weight capacity.
Desktop 140cm x 70cm
Height range 69cm x 118cm
Weight capacity 70kg
Price range £200 – £250

Our next pick has the largest desktop space, giving you plenty of room and a good weight capacity for your equipment. It’s finished with a durable melamine and the corners are rounded for safety and comfort. We’ve pictured the oak option but black and white choices are also available.
The no thrills, no spills controller has a simple 2 button up or down function. If you like this desk but want to save your favourite settings, you could upgrade to the 4 height memory desk for around an extra £55. It would still keep you within the £300 mark, but there’s a downside to the Dellonda standing desk range – the warranty period is for 1 year only.
For this reason, we would recommend the basic model if you’re on a tight budget. It’s got loads of space but no extras. If you are looking for something a little more, put those additional pounds to good use and choose a desk with a better warranty.
What we like…best desktop space, good price for the lower end option.
What’s not so hot…basic controller, warranty period for 1 year only.
FLEXISPOT

We really like FlexiSpot desks. They’re great value and come in a wide range of colours, sizes and designs.
Desktop 120cm x 60cm
Height range 73cm – 121cm
Weight capacity 70kg
Price range £200- £250
Click for Amazon product page (affiliate link)More about the FlexiSpot Desk
One of the first things to mention about our next recommendation is that FlexiSpot is a well-known and trusted brand. We really like their products, they offer great after sales support and there’s something for everyone within the range.
This particular desk features a stylish white frame and maple top combo. It’s one of the smaller desktops within our top 5 but should still provide enough space for the average set-up. Corners are rounded and the frame is powder coated for a high quality, durable finish. The controller features a simple up and down function only.
FlexiSpot desks undergo a number of tests and checks and are certificated as meeting CE, BIFMA and ROHS standards. (These relate to health and safety, environmental and durability requirements along with adherence to relevant EU legislation.)
The frame comes with a 5 year warranty, the motor is covered for 3 years and there’s lifetime access to the support team.
What we like…great brand, numerous certifications, good warranty.
What’s not so hot…one of the smaller desktops, up and down controller function only.
ALLCAM

With a good sized worktop, the Allcam gives you plenty of space plus an extendable frame for future flexibility.
Desktop 120cm x 80cm
Height range 73.5cm – 123.5cm
Weight capacity 60kg (excl. top)
Price range £250 – £300
Click for Amazon product page (affiliate link)More about the Allcam Desk
Our next recommendation is the Allcam desk with beech top and silver frame. (Other colours are available.) Powder coated and made with heavy duty steel construction, the frame is extendable. So if you decide to change the top at a later date, you can go larger – up to 160cm in width. The tops provided are made with commercial grade, solid MFC.
The controller is simple to use with up and down buttons only. But this model differs from most others as the controller and motor are merged into a single unit. This makes for improved reliability and costs less in manufacturing.
This desk is a great size but the biggest down side is its low weight capacity. At just 60kg maximum capacity – excluding the desktop – it’s the lowest within our feature. If you work light this shouldn’t pose a problem, but if you have a heavy kit to support, go for a different option.
Allcam offers an impressive 5 year warranty on all of their standing desks.
What we like…extendable frame, commercial grade top, good sized desktop, great warranty.
What’s not so hot…up and down control only, low weight capacity, upper end of the price range.
