Standing Desks – Your Questions Answered
Q – What’s the Difference Between Corner and L-Shaped Standing Desks?
Corner and L-shaped standing desks are often categorised together, but there are a couple of key differences between the two.
By definition, L-shaped desks feature a main desk with a shorter “return” desk attached at a right angle. Corner desks usually feature 2 desks of equal width attached at a right angle. (Minus the overlap.)
But of course, L-shaped desks can also fit into the corner of a room, so technically an L-shaped desk can also be called a corner desk.
Q – What’s the Difference Between a Gaming Desk and a Regular Standing Desk?
The simple answer is…not much. As standing desks evolve, you can find them with the same features and extras as gaming desks. (Depending on the manufacturer and price range of course.)
These features include :
- a larger desktop space to support multiple monitors
- height adjustment
- smooth surfaces and rounded corners for comfort
- superior durability
- headphone hooks and cable management systems.
Some gaming desks tilt. This is a feature rarely seen on regular standing desks, although some top-end models have a built-in tilting keyboard tray.
As you’ll see, our first featured desk below is marketed as both a gaming desk and an office desk. This is something you can expect to see more of in the future.
Q – How is an L-Shaped Desk Measured?
L-desk specifications usually give the total length of each outside or back edge.
In the example image, this 160 x 100 desktop would measure 160cm at the rear and 100cm at the right side edge.
Desktops are cut so that one attaches to the other, therefore eliminating an actual overlap. (They may be cut diagonally, but it’s usually square.)
When shopping for an L-shaped desk, it’s also useful to have the depth measurement of the desk and return. This will help you to plan your workspace more effectively.
Q – What Are L-Shaped Desks Good For?
L-shaped desks can work well in most home office set ups. These “2 desk in 1” solutions can give you extra space to work from, allowing you to place more of your equipment around you and within reach.
Ergonomically, this is a plus as it can help to eliminate arm and shoulder strain from excessive stretching.
With that extra kit at hand, you’ll need to be sure your desk can handle it. With L-shaped standing desks you can expect the weight capacity to be higher due to double or triple motors.
They’re also a great way to make the most of corner spaces. With a little thought and attention to detail, even the most compact of work areas can look slick, uncluttered and professional with an L-shaped desk.
Q – How do you Choose the Right Standing Desk?
Height Range
One of the most important factors to consider is the height range of your desk. We use Inch Calculator as a guideline for seated and standing work. Note these are guidelines and you should take personal measurements for the optimum ergonomic workstation set up. (You’ll also find set up guidelines on the Inch Calculator website.)
For shorter users the minimum height of your desk – i.e. for seated work – may be too high. Most times you can get around this with height adjustable seating.
When measuring up, remember to take into consideration factors such as footwear and anti-fatigue mats or balance boards if you use them.
Lift and Weight Capacity
Lift capacity is the maximum weight your desk can support when raising and lowering. It’s often called the weight capacity.
If a product spec advertises both, the weight capacity usually relates to the maximum weight when the desk is in a static position. In these cases, the lift capacity is the most important metric and you’ll want to make sure your equipment doesn’t exceed it, or else you risk overworking the motors and voiding the warranty.
Sound a little confusing? Put simply, if a product spec only gives one metric – i.e. lift or weight capacity – you can be pretty sure this relates to the amount your desk can support when adjusting. If both metrics are given, be sure not to exceed the lift capacity.
Warranty
As a general rule of thumb, the more you pay for your desk, the better the quality and longer the warranty. Of course, this isn’t always the case. If you’re on a tight budget and are planning on lighter use of your desk, you may be happy to settle for a shorter warranty.
For heavier duty use my multiple users and with heavier equipment, we would recommend spending a little more on the desk and a longer warranty. These are important factors to consider when choosing the right desk to suit your needs.
Other Factors
The size of your workspace will largely determine the dimensions of your desk. If you have a small area to work in, an L-shaped desk can be a great way to maximise your space.
Although some brands offer less in the way of choice, there’s a wide range of styles and colours out there so you’re sure to find a desk which pairs perfectly with your workspace.
Last but by no means least, the price of your desk will likely play a large part in your final choice. If you can, spend a little more to get better quality. Keep an eye on seasonal promotions and special deals to get a little more for your money if you can.

Eureka Ergonomic L-Shaped Gaming Desk
Basic Specs…
Size : 152.4cm x 110cm
Height range : 75cm – 122cm
Lift Capacity : 100kg
Warranty : 5 years (*see below)
Price range : Around £550
More About the Eureka Ergonomic…
Don’t be fooled by the name, the Eureka Ergonomic gaming desk is a great choice for a working desk as well.
The L-return can be located to the left or right, so you can choose which set up works best for you. There’s plenty of room for double or even triple monitors, and the grommet hole and cable management strip will help keep your wires in order.
The Eureka Ergonomic desk is commercial grade quality. So what does this mean? Well firstly, all desktop materials are non-toxic, environmentally friendly and free of heavy metals. Secondly, the desk has passed strict testing and independent inspections with flying colours.
You can also rest assured that a long list of government standards and regulations have been met relating to safety, durability and performance.
Adjustment is by means of dual motors and there’s a memory function for up to 4 height settings. There’s also an anti-collision function to keep your desk and equipment safe.
The maximum height of this desk is one of the lowest in our top 5, as is the lift capacity. But even so, it should be suitable for users up to 6 feet 4 inches tall and should easily support the average office set up.
Another point worth mentioning is that the assembly instructions aren’t guaranteed in English, so we would suggest that assembly may not be for the faint-hearted!
*Regarding the warranty, the Eureka Ergonomics website states that a 5 year warranty is in place for desks bought directly or via an authorised reseller. We did, however, find one user review which stated that the warranty doesn’t apply if purchasing through amazon.co.uk.
If you are considering buying this desk we would advise that you double check the Ts and Cs, or take out additional protection which is also available through amazon.co.uk.
But to sum up, this is a good, sturdy desk at a great price. There’s a comp mouse mat thrown in for good measure as well.
PROs – great price, meets quality, safety, durability and performance standards, 4 memory settings, anti-collision function.
CONs – need to check warranty Ts and Cs, lower max. height, lowest weight capacity, assembly instructions not guaranteed in English.
The FlexiSpot L-Shaped Desk (E1L)
Basic Specs…
Size : 160cm x 100cm or 180cm x 120cm
Height range : 71cm – 120cm
Lift Capacity : 100kg
Warranty : 5 years for the frame, 3 years for the motor, controller and switch, electronics and other mechanisms, 1 year for the desktop.
Price range : £570 – £600 (Or go frame only for £400.)
More About the FlexiSpot E1L…
We’ve reviewed a number of FlexiSpot products and you’ll often find them in our “Top 5” or “Best Of” posts.
We like them because they’re good value, good quality and there’s something to suit every budget. As a global concern, FlexiSpot has wisely invested in its customer care team and offers lifetime tech support, along with – mainly – good warranty cover.
They run discount programs for key workers, students and Strava users, along with regular promotions and special offers. Their products are fairly priced and if you shop at the right time you can save yourself even more of your hard earned cash.
Let’s move on to the desk itself…
With this model, you have a number of options. The heavy-duty frame is available in black or white. You can choose between a black, white or maple desktop, and the return desk can be placed left or right, depending on your preference. Choose your size as well to fit you and your workspace.
This desk meets international industry standards for health, safety and sustainability, along with environmental standards. This is reflected in a number of certifications, namely CE, BIFMA and ROHS.
The dual motors offer smooth andjustment and the LED controller has a 3-height memory function. The E1L also features anti-collision technology along with a handy sit-stand reminder function.
At 5 years the frame warranty is very good for this price bracket. The 3 year warranty on the electronics is also good. But what’s a little disappointing is the desktop warranty which is just 1 year. But unless you’re planning on using your workstation for unusual or heavy-duty activity, the desktop should probably live to a much riper old age.
However, if you’re concerned about this, you can go frame only and find a top to pair up from elsewhere.
The maximum height and weight capacity are at the low end of the scale, but as with the previous desk, they should still prove suitable for users over 6 feet tall with a fair amount of kit to support.
All in all, this is a good desk at a great price from a well-known and reputed brand.
PROs – well-known brand with great customer service and lifetime tech support, good price, certified to international industry standards, 3-height memory, anti-collision and reminder functions.
CONs – only 1 year warranty for desktop, lowest max height, lowest weight capacity.
The Fezibo Triple Motor Corner Standing Desk
Basic Specs…
Size : 160cm x 120cm
Height range : 70cm – 120cm
Lift Capacity : 150kg
Warranty : 2 years for motors and electrics, 5 years for all other components
Price range : Around £700
More About the Fezibo Desk…
We’ve featured the light rustic option with white frame but this Fezibo L-Desk is also available in black.
The frame itself is made with industrial grade steel, making it super-strong and durable. The desktop doesn’t quite match up in terms of quality – i.e just 1.5cm thick engineered wood – but for a better grade of desktop, you can also expect a higher price tag.
On the plus side, with triple motors comes a higher lift capacity and this desk has one of the best within our top 5. It also has an adjustable anti-collision feature and 3-memory height settings. For easy movement, lockable casters are included, along with 2 desk hooks and a cable management tray.
The return desk can only be placed on the right-hand side, but there’s plenty of room to work from so this shouldn’t be a problem, unless it doesn’t match with your workspace dimensions.
Assembly can take around one and a half to two hours, but the instruction video is straightforward and easy to follow. Have an extra pair of hands around to help you flip the desk when complete.
The warranty period isn’t mentioned on the Amazon product page but we reached out to the Fezibo team and they were quick to respond, confirming that the motors and electronics were covered for 2 years and all other components for 5 years. (Note, this is also stated on the Fezibo website and applies to authorised resellers such as Amazon.)
So the 2 year warranty on the electronics isn’t the best on the market, but again, for better cover you can expect to pay a higher price. This desk also has the lowest maximum height, but is still recommended for users up to around 6 feet 4 inches tall.
Overall, we think this is a good desk with lots to offer for the price.
PROs – good desk for the price, great lift capacity, anti-collision and triple memory function.
CONs – thin desktop, lowest max. height, 2 year warranty on electronics and motors.
The Bailey Triple Motor L-Desk
Basic Specs…
Size : 160cm x 160cm or 180cm x 160cm
Height range : 64cm – 130cm
Lift Capacity : 160kg
Warranty : 5 years
Price range : Around £1200
More About the Bailey Triple Motor…
As you’ve no doubt noticed, we’re heading upwards in terms of price with our next recommendation. Rest assured that with a higher price comes outstanding quality; the Bailey Triple Motor desk has passed rigorous safety testing and holds compliance certification for a long list of European and British quality, safety and durability standards.
In addition, it has an excellent height range. Not only is it suitable for extra tall users – also making it an ideal choice for users of under desk treadmills, balance boards, anti-fatigue mats etc – it also has the lowest height setting. This means it’s suitable for shorter users as well, with less need for height adjustable seating.
The lift capacity is at the top of the range and you also get more desktop space for all that extra equipment and peripherals. There’s a choice of 3 frame colours and 11 desktop finishes, so whatever your surroundings you’ll find a combo to suit your workspace and style.
There’s not much not to like about this desk, but if your preference is for a memory function you’re out of luck. The controller offers simple up or down adjustment only without any height pre-sets. (But hey, you can’t always have it all!)
There’s also an anti-collision feature to help keep your furniture bump and scratch-free.
The Bailey desk is backed by a 5 year warranty, and although this isn’t market leading it’s still good cover. What we also like is that most of Furniture@Work’s products are made in the UK. They’re a trusted brand with customers ranging from residential and business to local government and the NHS.
Yes, you’re going to pay more for this desk, but if your budget allows it you can count on outstanding quality and a gorgeous executive workstation.
PROs – quality, safety and durability assured, excellent height range, great lift capacity, large desktop space, good warranty, choice of colours.
CONs – upper end of price range, 2-button controller with no memory function.
The Forge Corner Executive Desk
Basic Specs…
Size : 160cm x 160cm or 180cm x 160cm
Height range : 62.5cm – 128.5cm
Lift Capacity : 160kg
Warranty : 5 years
Price range : Around £1400
More About the Forge Corner Executive Desk…
Our final recommendation comes with the highest price tag, but again you’re getting more for your money when it comes to quality and performance.
The triple motors allow for a superior lift capacity and the large desktops mean there’s plenty of room to keep all your essential office equipment close at hand. The height range again makes this desk an ideal solution for shorter and taller users alike.
The return can be located either left or right, and there’s a choice of 15 desktop colours. But what really sets this desk aside from the competition is the raw steel frame. It features welds, burnishes and heat marks for an authentic industrial look and is finished with a clear gloss lacquer.
This contemporary style won’t suit every environment, but it will certainly catch the eye in the right setting.
The premium electronics system is made in Europe and is way ahead of the cheaper alternatives. There’s a 4-height memory function, anti-collision technology, overload protection and temperature protection built-in.
The Forge Corner desk complies with a long list of standards and directives relating to health, safety, environmental protection, electromagnetic interference, ethical production and more. So you can rest safe in the knowledge that whilst your desk is way up there in terms of testing and certification, you’re also doing your bit for the environment.
As with the previous desk, the Forge Corner comes with 5 year warranty cover which is good, but not out of this world for the price range.
To wrap up, this is another great quality desk with some neat extras and an unusual aesthetic.
PROs – compliance with numerous standards and directives, excellent height range, great lift capacity, large desktop space, good warranty, wide range of desktops.
CONs – top of price range, frame available as raw steel only.
The L-Shaped Standing Desk Sum Up
L-shaped desks can be a great way to maximise smaller workspaces. They can also give a truly executive feel to larger ones. Having read today’s post you should now be in a position to choose the right desk to match you, your workspace and your equipment.
Here’s a recap on what we’ve covered :
- the key differences between corner and L-shaped desks
- the key differences between gaming desks and regular standing desks
- understanding how L-shaped desks are measured
- understanding what L-shaped standing desks are good for and
- important considerations when choosing your desk.
We then presented our top 5 L-shaped standing desks. We’re sure you’ll agree they each offer something a little different. If you’re still undecided on which would work best for you, here’s a brief summary of each :
- The Eureka Ergonomic Gaming Desk – not just for gamers, this desk is great value for money. Just be sure to check warranty Ts and Cs and make sure the max. height and lift capacity match your needs.
- The FlexiSpot E1L – a great desk from a leading brand with some neat extras. Again be sure to check your height and weight requirements.
- The Fezibo Triple Motor – mid price range this desk offers a lot for the money, in particular the weight capacity and controller functions. The quality of the desktop doesn’t quite match the frame and electronics though, but a great desk nonetheless.
- The Bailey Triple Motor – higher in price but big on size, quality, function and choice. There’s so much going for this desk. But the controller offers only up and down adjustment without memory height presets.
- The Forge Corner Executive – again higher in price but with a lot to offer in terms of size, quality, function and choice. The raw steel frame provides an unusual aesthetic, but if this doesn’t match your style there are no other frame options.
We haven’t graded our recommendations as “best” or “runner-up.” Only you can decide which might be a better fit for you. But we think they’re all great desks and we hope you’ve found what you were looking for. If not, check out our other reviews and information posts on standing desks and active office furniture.
